Five on Friday - Standards for Quilly

My friend Travis over at Trav's Thoughts does this fun meme with Five Songs on Friday. It's fun and easy to play. Head over there and see what it's all about.

With last week's set, Quilly mentioned that they sure don't make songs like they used to. That is so true, but there are some artists who are regularly revitalizing the standards of the 20th Century. (Though to be sure parents thought that the likes of Frank Sinatra and Perry Como were from the devil, and jazz certainly had unacceptably sexual overtones.  But that's another story.)

And that's how I was inspired about this week's set. These songs are certainly not new, but these artists are putting their own flair on these standards. This one's for you Quilly!

Love these. You know Charley plays in a Swing Band, so the music I listen to on a regular basis doesn't get played much on main stream radio anymore unless someone like these folks updates it.

Oh! And thanks for the shout out!

Mike: Glad you liked them!

Quilly: It's good that some of the kids know what's cool & swingin'. :D

I love Micheal Buble
he's like a chubby, cheek pinching version of Sinatra ;)

good set of tunes Cherie

I love this Set.

I first heard Jamie Cullum when he was about 22 years old, playing classic tunes mixed in with some really original sounding songs. He's a tremendously talented singer, songwriter, and musician. Glad to see his work here.

Wow - what a set. The whole thing swings, baby - I can't pick a favorite.

Dianne: Yeah, Frank Sinatra looked practically skeletal when he was Michael's age. lol

Travis: I think that was the age when I first heard of him too. It was on an episode of Austin City Limits. He was incredible.

Julia: They certainly were all on fire when they made those recordings! :)
